UBC’s Spring 2022 Graduation Ceremonies started earlier this week. We would like to take this opportunity to extend our warmest congratulations to all graduates. Apart from attending graduation ceremonies, the class of 2022 will probably plant a tree on Vancouver campus to celebrate its graduation, a well-known UBC tradition. This tradition started in 1919 and since then every graduating class has followed the tradition and conducted the Tree-Planting Ceremony. We have compiled the photographs of Tree-Planting Ceremonies throughout decades.

If you go to the area between the Mathematics Building and the Geography Building, you will see trees planted by the graduating classes of the 1920s. Similarly, if you walk around Northwest Marine Drive and East Mall, you will find trees planted by the graduating classes of early 2010s. For more details of the class trees, we recommended that you browse the UBC Archives Collection and refer to the following map.
